how a book 2 could also be a book 5 or maybe even book 1
However you read it, though, it is worth reading. It's a story woven with self-acceptance, and earnestness, both of which I find sorely lacking in these strange times.

The Only Story is on sale as part of an end-of-month thing via my publisher! Snag it now for 1.99 USD! Be enthused about this charming tale featuring a transmasc, NB rascal, and overindulge in exclamation marks!
Yes, I'm actually this excited about a book I wrote that came out a while ago, because in my humblest, it's more of what I'd like to see in the world. But, perhaps most interesting about it, is that it's either the second book in my series... or the fifth. If you're going in publication order, you'd read it right after Like Silk Breathing; you'll know David Mills was sort of the antagonist there, and now he's getting his own arc. Book 2.
If you're going in timeline order, you'll get to it after The Kraken and The Canary, then Of Flint and Fortune, then Of Valentines and Visions (okay, so those two are still in process, but this is where they fall), THEN Like Silk Breathing. Nothing will have changed when it comes to David, but you'll have much more knowledge of Paul Apollyon's backstory. Kind of nice, because he almost immediately takes to Lennie, a fellow seer. I think knowing about him when he was younger could add something to their nascent friendship. Book 5.
OR... to be honest, and this isn't even me trying to spin things for marketing purposes, I've been told one could just pick up The Only Story without having read anything else in Threads of Wyrd. (Unfair Winds would be the one title where I wouldn't recommend it.) Book 1.
However you read it, though, it is worth reading. It's a story woven with self-acceptance, and earnestness, both of which I find sorely lacking in these strange times. Neither do I think it's fair how someone one-starred it without at least justifying their take. While I haven't any problems with people reviewing negatively and would never pressure for Positive Vibes Only... it should be in good faith. Given the politicised furore around identities like Lennie's, I'm just not optimistic enough to assume that rating is in genuine, good faith.

Alas, I digress...
Go get it and let me know what you think x
*Some chronically online, queer people might wonder if this sale was intentionally part of TRR, and it wasn't. Just a happy coincidence. However, I give my blessing to anyone who wants to use the hashtags in connection with The Only Story. (It's own voices, and I love Lennie.)
**For more about Lennie and David, see this post. And if you fancy some Lennie-centric vignettes that prove "they" is a perfectly serviceable pronoun, there are a gaggle here!
